Do I need a special license to rent a houseboat?
While we prefer that the "Skipper" has some boating experience, it’s not mandatory for an
enjoyable stay on the boat. We ask that you designate one adult as the "Skipper". Prior
to leaving you alone we’ll cover all the systems on the boat and fully explain how everything works.
We will give an operator training course on the vessel prior to departure. In addition, there will be manuals and written instructions on the operation of the systems.
Our experienced guide will drive the boat in and out of the marina and check you out on beaching, anchoring and handling the boat. A 24 hr. phone number will be provided in case you need assistance. If you want to have us move the boat from one anchorage to another; we can arrange that for you at a nominal extra cost.
Remember, our mission is to make your stay on Lake Norman a safe and enjoyable one.
What is there to do on Lake Norman?
Relax and enjoy your surroundings! From fishing to tanning to just hanging out on the top deck; there’s always something to do on the water. There are Jet Ski and pontoon boat rentals available that can add more fun to stay. Spend your time swimming in the lake or simply reading a good book on the front porch deck. Enjoy cooking on the grill or take the dingy to one of the local waterfront restaurants. Bring an old movie and relax in the main salon. There are countless ways to spend your days and evenings.
How much does it cost to rent?
Please see our Rates & Reservations, we have several options available to you. Rent from one day to seven; we’re flexible for you.
How often do we need to get gas and water?
All boats leave the dock with tanks full of fuel and water. The holding tank for sewage is emptied after each rental. This should be enough to last for the entire rental, just call our hot-line if assistance is needed during your rental.
Where do I spend the night?
Lake Norman has over 500 miles of shoreline and 32,000 acres to enjoy. Using charts and maps provided you can find a new anchorage each night or stay where you are. We will be glad to offer cruising tips.
How many will the houseboat sleep?
The house boat has two bedrooms and one sleeper sofa, so it will sleep six comfortably. Those wishing to bring more usually bring a pop up tent and pitch it on the sundeck.
There is an additional one time charge of $100.00 per person over six people. This is a one time charge not per day. There is a maximum of ten people.
What about insurance?
Should damages be incurred while you’re operating the vessel you will be responsible for paying the full amount of those damages. Your deposit will be kept at the office and applied to the damage cost. If the damages exceed the amount of the deposit; you will be responsible for the difference.
Who’s responsible for gas?
The boat will be sent out with full tanks and the renter will be charged upon return for the gas that was used.
How often do we need to get gas and water? How much gas does the boat use?
The boat leaves the dock with full tanks of fuel and water which should be ample for the short duration of the rental. The boat has twin 140 hp engines and an 11 kw generator. The generator will consume approximately 1.9 gallons per hour. The engines will consume approximately a combined 5 gallons per hour while under way at 3000 rpm. Our expectation is that most renters will move the boat occasionally to experience different anchorages. The generator can be left off until you want to use the oven, microwave or air conditioner. Our recommendation would be to leave the doors and windows open during the day and then use the generator at dinner time if you want to cook and cool down the living quarters. The stereo, TV, lights, refrigerator and fans can run off battery and inverter power and needs no generator at all. We give a 2 hour free fuel allowance each day to run the generator to simply to keep the batteries charged up.
